As the weekend passed I was not
prepared to go meatless on Monday, I must say this was easier said than done.
For breakfast I consumed oatmeal and one banana, this was a typical breakfast
for me so it was not very hard. As time passed, lunch slowly approached. I
found myself standing in Putnams trying to decide what I wanted to eat. There
was plenty of meat options surrounding me which made it very hard because my
choices were so limited. I ended up having a salad with cucumbers, chick peas,
1 egg, grapes, avocado and craisins with oriental dressing on the side. I
incorporated my salad with various flavors so when I ate I didn’t really feel
like I was missing anything. My salads usually include majority of these
ingredients along with grilled chicken. On Mondays I usually find myself in the
library after class. While in the library I found myself getting a bit hungry
because my salad wasn’t really satisfying. I went to Capen café and purchased a
granola bar with an orange. These snacks held me until I was done studying as
well as dinner time. For dinner I ate a veggie griller burger with lettuce,
tomato, and jalapeños. I was very satisfied with dinner because I love veggie
burgers. I knew I would need to sleep soon after because it would not keep me
full for long.
I
believe lunch and dinner were the hardest for me to accomplish because I am
used to having chicken as my protein in almost every meal. For dinner I often
eat grilled chicken with rice and vegetables or a turkey burger with chips and
fruit. Throughout the day I found myself getting a bit bothered because I had
little protein in my meals to hold me over to the next meal. The money I spent
on food was less than usual just because it was mostly veggies. I couldn’t wait to wake up on Tuesday and
consume some meat products honestly.
Leeah,
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job in participating in meatless Monday! I am glad to read that despite all of the difficulties, you were able to complete the task successfully! I understand what you mean about the vegetarian options in Putnams being so limited. In freshman year, I use to dorm on campus, I remember when I had to eat meatless for a week for a religious holiday and I had so much meal swipes left for the week but I did not find any satisfying vegetarian options on campus. I remember that week being difficult because while I stood in Putnam I was attracted to all the options that contained meat. Eventually, I would just pick my regular meals like a sub or salad and replace the chicken with a vegetable. I still prefer to eat the salad in Putnam and the veggie burger in Fillmore as a vegetarian meal. I believe that since I commute this year and my spring semester schedule permits me to stay home on majority of my Mondays, I was able to become meatless on Monday in ease. Also fortunately, this past Monday, my mom had made a vegetarian Indian dish for dinner. This helped me stay on track of continuing the day by eating meatless because I usually cannot wait to eat my mother’s home-cooked meals and I was afraid that if it happened to be a non-vegetarian cuisine then I would have to excuse myself from dinner. So I guess it would be good idea for me to ask for my family support so I will not feel any pressure to eat non-vegetarian meals. Your blog has made me want to eat a veggie burger on campus for this upcoming Monday. Good luck on the other upcoming meatless Mondays! Keep up the good work!
Best,
Sandna
