In Buffalo I
live with my cousin Fritz who goes on a
fast yearly from the month of February until the month of May. During his fast he only eats natural organic
foods and tries to become better with nature and the spirits above. So this
morning he cooked us both natural oatmeal.
In the oatmeal he had added raisins and cinnamon. I also had a banana
and a cup of orange juice to go with that.
For lunch he had cook lentil soup which I had with garlic bread and I
ate an apple afterwards because the meal wasn’t fulfilling to me. For dinner I had ate brown rice and bean
sauce with tofu tomato paste and soy sauce.
Also with steam yutroy that had garlic and ginger seasoning with a
little soy sauce added.
My lunch was most affected because
I’m so use to eating big portions of foods such as steak with shrimp penne
alfredo or oxtails with rice and plantains. Therefore now since I’m eating
smaller proportions it isn’t as fulfilling. I’m currently a double major who is
taken 22 credits this semester so I have long school days. Therefore I noticed
that by my last class at 6pm I was tired and falling in and out of sleep. My
body couldn’t comprehend the change and I start to crash due to not having the same amount of calorie
and protein intake I usually take in. My
Monday seemed much longer and I just felt drained.
I actually saved money because I
usually buy food out because I do not know how to cook also if I did know how
to cook I wouldn’t have the time . So on an average day I’ll probably spend
about 17 dollars in total. So instead me and my cousin had concluded that I’ll
pay him 10 dollars for all three meals on Mondays . That’s a positive and I can
save the extra money for something beneficial. My friend Robert and Adrian also
had asked me to go to La Kueva with them that day which is a Spanish restaurant in
north park buffalo. Which I had to deny because I know I couldn’t resist the
temptation.
So this is an interesting beginning
of a journey to healthier eating. This will be challenging but I know I could
do it. One week down and five more to go. My body will hopefully adjust to the
food and have me running all day. But this should be a very interesting journey
and experiment. I’m actually happy about this because I like trying new things
and venturing off because you never know what it could lead to.
I have to agree with you: not eating meat definitely made me extremely lethargic throughout my day. It is really tough not being able to eat out too which is what I tend to do on Mondays because I am extremely busy also. That is one thing that this campaign will help me to do is save money on Mondays at least so I don’t just grab food out. It’s really neat that your cousin does that fasting during these months. Does he just do it to eat better, or is it for some other reason too? I would love for someone else to cook those super healthy meals for me! You should ask him from the recipes he uses especially for the oatmeal. I personally love having a bowl of oatmeal in the mornings as it is extremely filling and can taste extremely delicious if it’s made properly. The lentil soup sounds delicious as well. I have never made lentils at all before but have tried them out in restaurants and having them in soup I would think is pretty tasty. I am sorry that you felt you could not fight the temptation of not eating meat out though. I personally would have loved trying to find a meal without meat out in a restaurant as I would guess that the chef would have come up with a great source of protein other than meat. I hope to try going out to eat and eating meatless one of these Mondays if I have time.
